Chevillon, Nuits-St.-Georges

Is anyone familiar with this? Is this young vines or a blend of different plots or both? What's the quality in general?

Not sure aboutvine age, but I believe it comes from two lieu-dits near Vosne - Au Chouillet & La Charmotte.

I frequently buy the wine and enjoy it once it gets 7-10 years of age (from release, not vintage).

There's also a NSG Vieilles Vignes bottling that, in my experience, can compete favorably with a few of Chevillon's single vineyard wines.

Well, I have some in my cellar labeled VV -- are all of them labeled such?

ETA: I just checked in CT and they are indeed two distinct bottlings. The VV also does appear to be made in every vintage.

I think (but do not know) that the CT is wrong, pretty sure there is only the VV. I think that someone told me that when they need to replant, the young vines go into the Bourgogne (or maybe to negociants).

While I can't be sure, the CT entry shows the label below which has no mention of VV designation on it:

I'll have to go home tonight and see what labels my VV bottles bear, but I'm fairly certain that the words "Vieilles Vignes" do appear on them.

I think that's the older label, and Chevillon started adding VV in last decade or so. I have the '96, will take my flashlight and look when I get home. Does anyone have a 1999 or later than DOESN'T have VV?

My 2002s say Vieilles Vignes. Confirmed that 2005s and 2006s do as well. I really don't think the non VV designation exists anymore, and that we geeks (including me) don't always pay attention to the fine print.

Even critics don't always get it right. Rovani never bothered with the VV while Schildknecht (ever the stickler for details) does.

Oh, and by the way...it's delicious!

I might have to verify for myself And thanks for doing the dirty work, David. Someone might want to drop a note to CT help that they've got spurious entries for two "different" wines.

Sorry for late reply, no internet at home is a novelty for me.
1996 has the VV. I think the '90 didn't, but it's long gone. I'll see about posting a note on CT forum later
