YIKES....More Snow

Postby Bill Veneman » Mon Feb 08, 2010 1:19 pm

Looks like Ole' Man Winter and Mother Nature are dining out again in Louisville tonight! Depending on who you listen to, anywhere from 3-6 inches, just in time for morning crunch hour!
If life's a Banquet, what's with all the Tofu?

Cheers!

Eating rice cakes is like chewing on a foam coffee cup, only less filling.

Sahhhhhh-weet. Can't wait. Gonna grab a Thermos of coffee and a lawn chair and find me a freeway overpass to sit beside...you can't buy a ticket to a better show.

Hopefully I'll be enjoying the snow, snuggled up on the bed with my hubby and dogs, still in my jammies, and not at work! Bring on the blizzard!

One of the few times in my life I am glad I am NOT on the ambulance! Though I must admit to the entertainment value of the stories I hear about how they got into the spot they ended up in.

Where you guys hanging out for the snow show? Shelbyville and Hurstborne is a ton of fun.....

suzi, is that intersection hurstborne & shelbyville rd crash central? just thought with all the lights and the lower speed limits, it would be a better commute. (than the highways).

Crash Central is usually any place that is an overpass on snow/ice roads. Shelbyville and Hurstborne is just a normally busy intersection where people who lose their common sense in the "white blanket of death" will be fun to watch.....in a perverse way!

Anywhere on the Gene "Slider" Freeway is a sure bet. NB Gene Slider and I-71 is good. We use the Slider as an early warning system as it goes first, being the most elevated freeway around the city it tends to freeze up first.

I've never noticed before...but do the happen to have an observation deck on the Gene Slider/I-71 overpass ? If so, I'm there. If not I suppose the next best thing are the traffic cams...Hey that's it, I'm gonna sit all nice and toasty warm in my kitchen tomorrow morning drinking coffee and hitting "refresh" on the traffic cam website.

From the CJ at 1am:

Little more than an hour had passed after snow began falling in the Louisville area before police received numerous reports of traffic accidents and stranded motorists.

This just blows me away...Are people really SO incompetent that they can't drive in non-rush hour traffic in an INCH of snow ? In-fricking-credible.

I don't know which website you use for your traffic cams Steve P, but the Trimarc Video Tours does a nice job of auto-refreshing and switching among different locations.

At this point I'm tempted to make a wisenheimer remark about how it's sunny and clear in Maine, but considering we're moving to your all's neck of the woods I'm more than a bit concerned about karma.

Also, you'd think that people in Maine would have good winter driving skills, but that's not particularly the case. For the first month or so of the winter season you'd think everybody lost their collective memory of what snow is and drive like the proverbial 100-year-old. Then for the rest of the season they dial up the bravado and don't think there's a need to slow down at all or leave more than a chin whisker's space between cars when driving on ice.
